This is written in the Ukrainian language. A bright red decorative cover with illustrated endpapers and previous owner signature on pastedown.  Pages are age toned and binding is intact but loose.  Many of the stories by the Russian writer, Melnikov,  targeted social and domestic despotism, all-pervading corruption and serfdom. They were praised by Russian radical critics of the time.
