Volumes 1 & 2 have gilt lettering to spines and green covers with gilt medallions. Vintage decorative endpapers and each volume has tissue guard portrait frontis. Light rubbing to dark green board corners. Volume 1 has two circular stains to front cover (see photos) A newspaper article inserted at pg. 47 and pg. 287 resulted in ghosting. Fold out facsimile of dispatch btwn General Buckner and General Grant is pristine, 584 clean pages. Volume2 has a stain to upper corner of portrait frontis (see photos) and the spine tail is worn.
