Published by Century Co., 1899 author S.Weir Mitchell, M.D.  Continental edition, 2 volumes. Each w/mylar covers and tissue guard frontis by Howard Pyle. Title pages lettered in red and black. Both volumes have faded yellow cloth boards w/black lettering surrounded by ornate gilt border design, repeat on faded spines. Howard Pyle and C.W.Peale illustrations as well as reproductions of paintings and photographs, all accounted for. Both vols., have deckled edges w/gilt top. Previous owner signature on front pastedown dated 1973. Each has minor spotting to boards and volume2 rear hinge exposed. State seal of Philadelphia embossed on back cover of each volume. Our photo is reflective because of mylar covers.
