In the 1800s women were educated fully with abundant travel instead of formal schooling. These ladies, cousins infact, went around the world by boat leaving from Boston and headed for Cape Horn, San Francisco and then China and the East Indies recording their sights and impressions in a "journal-letter" for loved ones at home. Several lithographs of exotic details run thru the book.
"...Friedman writes in straightforward language that should make globalizaation's complexities commprehennsible. There's a great deal of wisdom in this book"
